About us

We are an independent charity dedicated to giving disadvantaged children the literacy skills they need to succeed.

We work to improve the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in the UK's poorest communities, where one in three people have literacy problems.

Because low literacy is intergenerational, we focus our work on families, young people and children.

As a charity that exists to change the lives of disadvantaged children through literacy, there's never been a more important time for our work.

The recent school closures across the UK mean that the weeks, and possibly months, ahead will be challenging for any parent. But for the families of the 4.5 million children already living in poverty in the UK, the pressures of economic hardship, social isolation and needing to support their children's education and literacy at home could be overwhelming or impossible.

There are hundreds of thousands of disadvantaged children in the UK who already rely on our help. Your support will help us continue to support these children and families, and others who need us, throughout this unprecedented situation, and beyond.
