Island Community Action provides a range of much loved and valued projects for the community.
Our busiest and biggest project is Silver Island, which provides support for those aged 50yrs+, in particular those impacted by poor physical and / or mental health, isolation, loneliness and poverty.
Silver Island's services include befriending, transport, lunch clubs, local errands, art and exercise classes, a community choir and a dementia friendly singing group, benefits and legal surgeries, shopping and social trips, dog walking and Portland's Man Shed (now incorporating the Ladies Shed).
For many, our services are vital...
“I'm on my own and am registered as disabled because I'm very partially sighted. I want to stay as independent as I can, so it's wonderful for me to have ICA to call upon. It makes me feel like I'm still in charge and capable.” Jill - 77yrs.
"Without ICA I would be lost. They help me with my shopping, get me to the doctors and take me out to lunch clubs and the cinema. They even drove me to Cambridge so I could spend Christmas with my sister. I would be depressed if I were stuck indoors all day." Glenys - 96yrs
“Volunteering for ICA's Silver Island project helps to keep my mind active and alert, it keeps me going really. I was always an active part of my community but as I've got older and my mobility has worsened it's been harder to find things that I can help with that I can get to easily. ICA always finds a job for me, which I'm told is helpful to them. They certainly keep me going!” Dennis - 90yrs
Please help us to continue our work, so we can reach and support more of our most vulnerable older residents.
Thank you for your support and good luck!
